Broken Glass
My love for him is like broken glass
So clear and yet so sharp
His hugs to tight
His smile so bright
Yet so dangerously right
Its clear were meant to be
Although hes just to fright
His smile so bright
His hair so light
Yet my love for him is like broken glass

Virtual Selves
Virtual Selves
People turn to technology and social media as an escape from life. "We expect more from technology and less from people" (Turkle). People are drawn to virtual life gaming where one can play as someone else. People like to play games where they are in charge and they have to control anything within the game. Now a days, people are using technology everywhere they go like in school and even at work. We turn to technology to feel connected. When we feel alone we expect technology to give us company. We like to control what we are going to say and do. People think at in real life they cant control anything but you can control yourself. People use technology as a getaway from life.
Virtual gaming gives you the ability to be someone you're not or to be who you really are. People turn to virtual gaming as an escape from reality. When you play a virtual game you are in control and you have the ability to do anything you want. For example, people can use virtual gaming as an escape by being someone they are not. By doing this people put reality on hold and turn to virtual gaming as their reality. "The anoymity of MUDs (Virtual Game) gives people the chance to express multiple and often unexplored aspects of themselves to play with with their identity and to try new ones" (152, Turkle). For some people they hate their real life so they turn to virtual gaming where they can be anyone they wish to be. "People can get lost in virtual words. Some people can get lost in virtual life in cyberspace as insignificant, as an escape, or meaningless diversion" (159, Turkle). Although people use gaming as an escape from reality you can't replace reality with virtual life.
People turn to technology to feel connected and not feel isolated from the world. People turn to social media as a way to complain about life. When people post stuff online they feel like all of their problems finally escaped. When people feel alone they turn to the internet to keep them company. Physically they are alone but mentally they have all the company they want. A lot of posts online are about people complaining about their life and how they wish they can escape it all. By turning to social media people feel so connected and forget what is happening around them. People use this social media as an escape from life.
When people text they feel like the whole world around them is gone. People don't like real conversation because you can't change or control what you are going to say. When texting you can say what you want to say and delete what you don't want to say. While in reality you don't have the ability to do that. "People would rather text than start a real conversation" (Turkle). People text to get away from life. For example, teenagers text while having diner with their parents to avoid any real conversation. By texting people build imaginary walls around them an no one can disturb them. By having theses imaginary walls they feel like they escaped reality. Everything around them disappears and all they see are their phones. People don't pay attention to the world around them. They expect more from technology and less from people. We are drawn to our phones and texting and not the scenario around them. " For many teens their social networking activities have become an important vehicle for such exploration." For most teens technology is more important then reality.
For my final words, technology is taking away the lives of many people. People are using technology everywhere they go. We turn to technology to feel connected and not alone. Virtual gaming and social media are a way for people to get away. When people feel isolated from the world they turn to technology and their phones. You cant replace life with social media or virtual gaming. People should take advantage of the world around them. We shouldn't rely on technology as an escape from reality.
